March Mustache Madness
When I think of March the first thing that comes to mind is mustaches and there is nothing better than honoring those who have found their identity through facial hair with a month long competition. March Mustache Madness was introduced to me three years ago and now I am doing my part to keep the tradition alive. This year's competition will have three awards: the most creative, the creepiest and the newly created lifetime achievement award in honor of our competition's founder. Stay tuned, pictures of the competition will be posted at the end of the month!

Mardi Gras 2009

How do Nick and I top a great night of grilled cheeses and burgers/KU game? Mardi Gras Parade 2009, KC style. Well, technically "there wasn't a parade." When we arrived, groups of the Mardi Gras goers were getting ready and getting their drinking on. A highlight was a child puking. We thought the kid was drunk because the puking didn't bother him, but his brother was crying wanting to end the night. Moments later, the puking boy was picking chocolate coins off of the street. Another wonderful highlight of the night, were dancers in their underwear in the window. A couple of the dancers might have second thoughts about being in the window since they filled the window, if you get my drift. Below the dancers were more dancers behind a curtain with a light shining behind them. Just amazing. Above this group were kids in a window throwing out beads. Classic. As we were leaving, a man in just gold shorts came out in the window. That topped the night. Nick and I both agree that next year when we attend Mardi Gras, we are going to wear costumes to fit in. Or maybe a better idea, we can dance in the windows.

Grilled Cheeses and Burgers
The other night we were watching KU put up a beating on OU to take the lead in the Big 12 when we realized that we needed some food to get us through the game. Earlier that day Jared's brother Josh had told us about some cheeseburgers he saw on Man vs. Food, so we decided to give them a shot. The concept behind the burger was to take a grilled cheese sandwich and put a burger on top of it and then top it off with another grilled cheese sandwich. This idea sounded too good to pass up and as you can see from the pictures we were not let down. This may just be the best burger creation ever invented. How It All Began
Not many people could or would want to say that they met their best friend in a high school locker room, but I am proud to admit it. Jared and I met back in 1997 while attending Lansing High School and the rest is history. Over the last 12 years Jared and I have followed each other around North Eastern Kansas and North Western Missouri completing our college degrees at KU and eventually landing jobs at the same publishing company. In high school it was our dream to live in a run down apartment together and cook out on our tiny charcoal grill, luckily for us that dream came true and we have been fortunate enough to share many tight living quarters. This blog will serve as a journal to the current chapter of our lives and will document our journeys together. Currently Jared and I live in Kansas City and unfortunately in separate apartments. I am now married and my wife seems to think it would be weird if we all three lived together, but believe me this has been a topic of discussion.
